Who are we?
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.We are a club of volunteers dedicated to helping children in our community. The Kiwanis Club of Germantown was formed on November 1, 1963. The Club has approximately 80 members.

Germantown Kiwanis
The Kiwanis Club of Germantown was formed on November 1, 1963. The Kiwanis Clubs of East Memphis and Memphis were the sponsoring clubs. Charter Night was held on Wednesday, December 11, 1963 at the Colonial Country Club. The Club's first president was attorney Bruce Law. The only charter member currently in the club is Boyd Maize.
The Club is one of ten Kiwanis clubs in the Memphis Area (Division 1C), and is second in size only to the Memphis Club. The Club is currently growing and approaching 100 members.
The Club's community projects include financial assistance to the Germantown Library, the Germantown Children's Theater, the Scouts Program, LeBonhuer Children's Hospitals, the Commission On Missing and Exploited Children (COMEC), Sponsored Youth Scholarships and Club-sponsored Key Clubs and Builders Clubs. The Club sponsors the Germantown and Briarcrest High School Key Clubs and Germantown Middle School, and Riverdale Elementary School Builders Clubs. The Club sponsors highly successful Terrific Kids programs at Germantown Elementary School and Madonna Learning Center. Several club members participate in the Imagination Destination Program.
Germantown Kiwanis Fund Raising projects include the Germantown Young Artists Concert, Pancake Breakfast Day, Charity Car Show, the Germantown Festival, Fourth of July Activities and a successful Golf Tournament.
The weekly club meeting consists of an excellent buffet breakfast, good fellowship, and entertaining and informative programs. One of the club highlights is the annual Club December Holiday Party in which members spouses participate.
Special Recreation Fishing Rodeo:
This event for children and young adults (ages 12 and up) with special needs will be conducted Saturday June 9th from 8 AM till noon at Johnson Road Park. Kiwanians will assist the campers with fishing from 9 till 11 and cook hot dogs and hamburgers for a picnic lunch at 11 AM. Kiwanis spouses are welcome to participate. Simple fishing gear is needed. Sign-up sheets will be available at club meetings. You need to be at the park by 8 AM to receive instructions. A wonderful opportunity for community service.

On Monday May 20 the student members of the Builders Club at Germantown Middle School dedicated a bench in memory of Louis Bagby. Louise was a dedicated Kiwanian who gave of her time and effort and was very dedicated to the Builders Club. The guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown on May 16 was Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell. He talked to the club about school consolidation, property taxes and healthcare, among other topics. The guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Germantown meeting on May 8 was Donald Lamp. He spoke to the club members about maintaining a healthy life-style through diet and exercise. 2013 Scholarshop Winners: Brittney Gaithen (third from left) and Latrice Flowers (second from right). The guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown on February 14th was Susie Gregory with Parent Coach LLC.; Parent Coach is a new service available to parents in the Germantown and Collierville area that is designed to fill; the void between parenting books and traditional mental health services by building a game plan to target unwanted behavior in kids while building a strong core of decision making skills. Mrs. Gregory left) was introduced by Kiwanian Mark Van Stolk. The special guest speaker at the February 7th meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown was John E. Gnuschke with the University of Memphis. He spoke on the Future of Manufacturing in Memphis. He was introduced by Kiwanian Frank Markus (left) a former colleague (retired) at the University. The special guest speaker at the December 20th weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown was Trey Heath with EDGE (Economic Development Growth Engine) The guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown on January 3rd was Ms. Dolly Carter with The Arc Mid-South. Natalie Sakaan and Christine Lee, co-Presidents of the Germantown High School Key Club visited Kiwanis to give and update on the club's activity. The newly formed Builders Club at Houston Middle School raised enough money during the Trick-or-Treat for Unicef to provide immunization against tetanus for 220 mothers and their future children. Germantown Kiwanis recently worked the "Kettle" for the district's Red Kettle Campaign to help the Salvation Army. For the 2011-2012 administrative year, the Memphis Family Shelter was the recipient of the President's designated funds from 50/50. Several members of the Germantown Kiwanis Club volunteer each year to judge local and state competition. The donation falls under the Kiwanis Committee on Youth Services, "Serving the Children of the World". At last week's club meeting a donation was made to the Family Safety Center. The Center assists young children and families recover and rebuild after a domestic violence event. At a recent meeting, the Kiwanis Club of Germantown was honored to have the incoming officers of the Germantown Middle School Builders Club in attendance where they were installed by club President Claude Vinson. Chuck Molinski, President of the Mid-South Chapter of the National Football Hall of Fame, discussed the recent plans, the College Football Hall of Fame and the recent honorees and recipients of their Scholarships. W. Clay Jackson, M.D., DipTh was the guest speaker for September 6th meeting. His presentation on "The effect of Humor on the Brain" was great. Laura Vaughn was the guest speaker for the August 30th meeting of the Germantown Kiwanis. Laura is the new Executive Director of the Mid-South Chapter of the American Red-Cross The Kiwanis Club of Germantown recently made a donation of $2,250 to the Urban Child Institute. The mission of the Urban Child Institute falls in line with the purpose of the initiative by focusing on the health and well-being of children from conception to age three. Accepting the check was Ms Katy Spurlock, recently recognized as Kiwanis District Layperson of the Year. For more information on the Urban Child. Congratulations!! xx At the August 2nd meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown members Kathy Tuberville from the University of Memphis spoke on what the newest generation is bringing to the workplace and the benefits of Interns. Kathy is a long time resident of Germantown and has had a long career in education and continues that as Assistant Director of Internships for the University. At the recent Kiwanis District Convention in Lafayette Louisiana, Katy Spurlock with the Urban Child Institute of Memphis was chosen as Kiwanis Louisiana, Mississippi, West Tennessee District Layperson of the Year. Ms Spurlock;s name was submitted by the Kiwanis Club of Germantown. A check for $250 was presented to the Urban Child Institute by the Kiwanis District Foundation in Ms Spurlock's name. Last week, David Keith, actor with over 100 TV and movie roles, spoke to us about the National Association to Protect Children. That's him on the left in the picture to the right. Maybe you recognize him from the picture below? The Kiwanis Club of Germantown has selected Lieutenant. Jack Antonuk as Lawman of the Year. Officer Antonuk has been with the Germantown Police Department since 1999. He serves as a certified Crisis Intervention Instructor and Domestic Violence Instructor. He serves as the patrol division liaison with the Information Technology Department to keep the mobile computers operational. He recently took on the responsibility of revising data driven performance evaluations of patrol officers. Lt. Antonuk was nominated for this award by the Germantown Police Department for his dedication and work ethic and he always maintains a positive attitude and seeks to provide A+ results in his role as a supervisor. Mitchell is stationed at the cities newest fire station. The Kiwanis Club of Germantown has presented Ms. Katy Spurlock with the Lay Person of the Year Award for 2012.Ms. Spurlock is Director of Education and Dissemination at The Urban Child Institute. He talked about and showed the members a video presentation on the needs for heart treatments, surgery and transplants in poorer nations where they are in need of more modern medical treatment. Members of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown assisted Special Needs Day Campers at the annual Tennessee Wildlife Resources Mid-South Fishing Rodeo in Germantown on June 9th. After the Rodeo other Kiwanis members (not pictured) cooked and served hot dogs and hamburgers to the campers. The guest speaker at the latest weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown was Justin Fuente, the new Head Football Coach of the University of Memphis. The guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Germantown was Nicci Feathers. She told the club of her involvement with "The Forsaken Children" project. A Christian project to provide food, schooling and shelter for the homeless children of Ethiopia. Club of Germantown has presented Madonna Learning Center with a check for $2,000 in keeping with the Kiwanis program: Young Children:Priority One.The club also honors students at Madonna each month with the Terrific Kids program.
Lifesaver and Hero Award
The Kiwanis Club of Germantown has honored Germantown resident Brian Coblentz with its "Lifesaver and Hero Award". Mr. Coblentz aided in the rescue of 3 year old Heather Wolff in January when the toddler, sledding down a steep embankment, found herself on the thin ice of the lake at Howard McVay Park. As Heather attempted to walk off the ice, it broke leaving her propped up by her arms. Mr. Coblentz was driving by with his family when he saw what happened. He plunged into the lake and lifted Heather out of the ice hole.The award was presented by Kiwanis Immediate Past President Sam Goff. Attending the ceremony was Mr. Coblentz's father-in-law Marion Flanagan (left) and his father Sam Coblentz (right).
